O divine and wise one, maker of worlds and tamer of flames, grant me your favour.

Mistflowers is an artbook featuring a collection of portraits of warrior goddesses.

The story

After Bloodflowers and its warrior queens, we continue our exploration of women warriors with this collection of warrior goddesses.

Throughout history, war has been an integral part of civilisations and their worship. The uncertain outcome of conflicts was often put down to the mood swings of the gods.

Depending on the mythology, several gods could preside over war, each covering a different aspect: for the Greeks, Ares embodied war as violence and Athena as a tactical art. Other mythologies tie violence to the creation myth, and place a warrior goddess at the top of their pantheon.

Through the brush of Manon 'Stripes' Potier, we present some thirty portraits of these armoured deities. The myths surrounding these fighters travelled far and inspired many more legends. They also help us understand our past, and can shape our future!

Goddesses, spirits and other demons of war embodying courage, will, wisdom, violence or victory. Mythical beings who inspired civilisations for millennia, endlessly reinterpreted through syncretism. Mistflowers is a collection of portraits of goddesses, a book filled with tales from around the world and across the ages.

A word from the illustrator

Welcome to the Kickstarter for this second artbook. I am Manon "Stripes" Potier, illustrator and art director at DTDA Games. I have worked on the illustrations of the DTDA Games board games and already published a first artbook. I am currently working on even more games and books with the wonderful DTDA Games team.

Passionate about ink and watercolour, and a great lover of stories and legends, I am thrilled to be working on this second artbook and to share all the fabulous myths surrounding these warrior deities. Seeing the world through the tales of different cultures helps me grow and broaden my creative horizons: a true journey through the history of humankind.

The book

Mistflowers contains watercolour portraits of warrior goddesses from various civilisations and tribes. Each portrait comes with a description of her deeds and a poem by Sergio Matsumoto, game designer at DTDA Games.

The book will be divided into chapters grouping goddesses with similar attributes, such as War & Fertility, War & Violence or even War & Sex.

For those who do not know DTDA Games yet: we care about making elegant, refined objects. That is why we chose to print the book in France, with the same art-book printer as Bloodflowers.
