Light Hunters Expansion II adds 8 new heroes and a new game mode to Light Hunters: Battalion of Darkness.

The story

At the start of a game, players can choose their heroes from the 4 of Wind of the Dunes or the 4 of Tide of Atlantis. With new tokens added for some heroes, players can make a skill last more than one turn, bringing a new level of strategy and counter-picking to Light Hunters. Players will need to be careful when picking a team of heroes, as cooperation between heroes becomes more complex.

Already mastered the base game and its first expansion? Then it's time to dive into this new expansion. And it isn't getting any easier: a new game mode and 8 new heroes raise the game's complexity. That's why players can now check how complex their heroes are before choosing them. The mechanics brought by each new hero add more challenge to the game and to managing your team.

With Expansion II, players can choose their heroes from 8 new cards. As in the first expansion, Rise of the East & Dawn of Amazonia, there are 2 new Heroes per class: Defense, Attack, Support and Magic.

The 4 heroes of Wind of the Dunes come from the arid lands, and their thirst for glory may well be the reason for their exile. They have unlocked the mysteries of the elements and developed skills beyond understanding. Will knowing nature's secrets give them a better chance of winning the battle?

There is a myth about a lost city. A vain city that sank beneath the sea. It was the homeland of heroes gifted by the gods. But what the gods give, they can take away… Such was the fate of the 4 heroes of Tide of Atlantis, in search of their salvation.

The hero tokens

What's new

Hero tokens

Hero tokens are new to Light Hunters. 6 heroes have them: Atheer, Nuriyah, Mashael, Cassandra, Phaenna and Photine. Each hero has a specific number of them, and they are used to represent a skill that lasts more than one turn. Tokens are not active skills, so they cannot be moved or cancelled by a skill.

An immortal hero

A hero with 2 cards? Meet the immortal Nuriyah!

We all have that friend who always dies first and then sulks for the rest of the evening… Let that friend play Nuriyah: even dead, she is still active, and even more powerful. The only real way to get rid of her is to wipe out the whole team once and for all!

Enchantments

From Expansion I, you probably remember Chiharu's traps, which the shinobi placed on an allied hero. Photine's Enchantments may remind you a little of those traps, but they are different.

The nymph can cast Enchantments on the play area. But they only trigger once she has cast 3 of them, placing them face down with the Enchantment tokens. Only then are the effects of the 3 spells applied!

And of course, there are other skills to discover, such as raising an army, handing out amulets, increasing the global Ether level, and more.

Duel mode

The new Duel mode of Light Hunters takes the fight for your redemption to a whole new level.

Without adding many components (only 5 tokens per player) or changing the base game's skills, Duel mode offers a new experience of play and strategy.

In this mode, each player picks 3 heroes from all the available heroes. The selection is absolutely crucial: the heroes of your battalion must be well balanced if you want to stand a chance!

Once your heroes are chosen, you must lock 5 of their 15 skills. To do so, players place 5 Duel tokens over the skills they want to lock, spread across their 3 heroes. Choose carefully, as locked skills cannot be used for the rest of the game!

A good spread of Duel tokens is key to winning!

Compatible with the base heroes and all the additional heroes from the expansions, Duel mode offers a new game experience optimised for 2 players!

A word from the designer

Sergio Matsumoto, designer of Light Hunters: Battalion of Darkness:

The main goal of this expansion is to offer players brand-new game mechanics through these new heroes. For example, it becomes possible to play after death, to lay enchantments, or to raise an army of soldiers, all without changing the original rules of the game.

That is the very essence of Light Hunters: simple, effective gameplay that lets you pick up the game quickly and have fun. The complexity is carried by the heroes themselves, and by the combinations players form within their teams.

These 8 additional heroes bring the cast to 24, offering a wide variety of combinations and play styles to try.

With this expansion, I wanted above all to break free from skills limited to a single turn; the new tokens make it possible to represent this new kind of skill cleanly. For this expansion's heroes, I also wanted to develop a play style specific to each hero, both to bring out the characters' personalities and to vary the feel within a single game.

Duel mode was also a project close to my heart. It makes the game all the more versatile by offering a dedicated mode with minimal change to the way you play and to the components used. This mode raises your control over your Battalion and your hand management a notch, reducing the luck of the draw and offering players even more epic clashes.
